4 Steps to Create an Effective Parking System

Whether you manage resident, student, or employee parking create clear guidelines that apply to all who utilize your parking structure. Have clearly posted signs at every entrances to notify everyone of the parking policies and penalties and use the following as guidelines when creating your parking system.

1. Add a parking clause. A clause establishes legal authority to create and enforce a permit parking system. Have rules laid out in writing and ensure that everyone who registers for a parking spot has a clear understanding of what is expected. Make sure every resident understands your policies and the actions you will take to enforce them.
2. Issue Permits. Permits are sequentially numbered so you can keep easily track them. Select a bright color so you can check for them at a glance.
3. Use permit logs. Issue parking permits during the parking registration process and create a print or digital log to keep track of assigned permits and corresponding parking spots as applicable.
